We love a design challenge that’s bold, fast-moving, and a little offbeat, so when Moxy Montréal Centre-ville came calling, we were all in. Our mission? Create a series of custom graphics with goals of infusing the spaces with Montreal flavour, tap into the hotel’s transportation-inspired theme, and stay true to Moxy’s no-rules, high-energy aesthetic.
Every floor in the hotel offers something unexpected—layered, interactive, and full of moments that reward a second (or third) look. Think: retro metro vibes, cheeky typography, and elevated environmental design that invites guests to let loose.
Elevators That Move You
Let’s start with one of our favourite pieces: our elevator graphics. We pushed hard to bring this concept to life. Motion-inspired line work flows up the walls, a nod to Montreal’s iconic metro system, while playful messaging invites guest to interact. The colour palette continues across each floor’s landing base graphics; creating movement, rhythm, and a strong sense of place with every ride.
A Ride Worth Taking
Moxy Montréal Centre-ville wanted guests to feel like they stepped straight onto a metro platform the moment the elevator doors opened. Each landing base across nine floors features a custom-designed photographic collage that evokes the unmistakable feeling of the iconic retro Montreal metro, with a few cheeky twists of course. Sports jerseys, graffiti details, and full of subtle nods to city culture bring a dose of local energy and personality to every scene.
We approached each floor like its own unique stop on the line: same metro, different vibe. The perspective had to be just right (hello, camera roll full of reference shots). We pulled out every tool in our arsenal from digital painting to retouching to build out dynamic, immersive compositions. These aren’t just static backdrops, they shift and change from floor to floor, encouraging guests to explore and discover the little nuggets of what makes each one special. It looks easy, but we even mapped out phone jacks and fire alarms to blend into the graphics for a seamless finish. For a hotel built on bold experiences, this one might be our favourite stop yet.
Pump Up the Volume
In the gym, we brought the energy. A 67-foot mural bursts across the walls with bilingual type that brings flex appeal. Whether you're on your first set or your last rep, the inspirational messaging pushes gym enthusiasts to keep moving.
Our custom chalkboard wall, filled with quirky illustrations and tongue-in-cheek references to Montreal’s eternal construction season, adds local flair and a touch of humour. It's the perfect place sweat it out and grab a gym selfie.
Steam, But Make It Stylish
We even gave the sauna a glow-up. A tiled Moxy logo pattern on the glass offers the right amount of privacy while keeping the space inviting. It’s a small, stylish detail made to elevates the guest experience.
Putting the "Fun" in Functional
This design project was a true floor-to-ceiling transformation. Every element was carefully created to fuse form and function, adding layers of personality, energy, and hometown character to the space.
For guests, it means stepping into a hotel that feels uniquely Montréal, while still being able to enjoy Moxy’s global vibe: punchy, unapologetic, and a little rebellious.
