It was about time for another team outing and what better place then seeing a production of Once– a Tony Award winning Musical at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts. We loved seeing our graphics (current and past seasons) adoring the building and lobby at the Segal.

The heart-warming production is a tale of love and taking chances and was a wonderful start to the Segal Centre’s 2018/19 Season. It’s a definite a must see for theatre fans. Filled with witty characters, wonderful music and talented actors the show is great for all ages. The show wraps this weekend, so if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t miss out! Get tickets to see Once at the Segal.

We vanished!! From our desks that is…

Today our team took an impromptu field trip to Montreal’s McCord Museum to check out the Illusions: The art of magic exhibition.

The inspirational exhibition features exciting posters created to promote the most popular magicians of the 19th and 20th century (like Houdini, Kellar, and Chung Ling Soo).

Not only did we learn about disappearance, levitation, and escapes, but we learned about The Strobridge Lithography Company and Imprimerie Harfort,- the lithography companies that printed many of these stunning outdoor posters. We were dazzled! The use of primary colours, neutrals, and texture mixed with photographic images and bold typography was simply phenomenal.

There were lots of takeaways from the exhibit that we can’t wait to try in some specific client projects in the coming year…Stay tuned to see what comes out of it!

Last week we had the pleasure of attending opening night of The Hockey Sweater – a Musical at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts. This heart-warming production brings to life Roch Carriere’s short story and is definitely a must see. The show features some uber-talented kiddos and it’s great for all ages. Due to it’s popularity, the show has been extended from November 13 through November 15. For more details and to purchase your tickets click here.

Don’t want to miss this amazing classic!

Digital advertising is everywhere, but so is good print!

Cliniques Preventia came to us to create an eye-catching print campaign to raise awareness about their preventative medical services. The ads depict the difference that a good healthcare plan can make in your life, especially if you’re nearing retirement age.

Look for these posters in Metro stations and billboards around the city of Montreal in the coming weeks.

Last week the Design Is Yummy team had the pleasure of attending the One & All Conference hosted by DyanmicMTL (among others).

The conference consisted of a full day of inspirational talks centred around creativity and design. From speakers like Andrew Herzog (co-founder of HAWRAF), Maura Cass (Design Researcher at IDEO, Ali Weiss (SVP of Marketing at Glossier), and Sebastian Spier (Design Director at Nike and an old classmate of our Creative Director, Elana) to name a few, we were reminded of the impact design can have on consumers and in return the impact consumers can have on design as well. Design, as many speakers illustrated, is meant to provide an experience and provoke meaningful connections. Andrew Herzog put it well with “The communications you put out into the world should invite people to say something back.”

We left the conference more conscious of the work we deliver and inspired to get back to work and continue creating.

Recently we took home a Bronze Summit Creative Award (SCA) for our Merry Everything Holiday Card.

The SCA awards small and mid-sized marketing firms around the world and is widely recognized for its honour and prestige. We are happy to take a spotlight in their 23rd celebration in the category of Invite/Holiday/Announcement – Industry Self-Promotion.

In the words of Mia Hamm “The person that said winning isn’t everything, never won anything.”

We’re proud and totally pumped to continue making award-winning designs! Go team!

Thanks to everyone who came out to hear Elana speak this afternoon on website design trends. A full house with a fun question period. Thanks WordPress community.

Between new clients, major projects with existing clients and multiple awards, we’ve had a busy year! In celebration of a very productive and successful 2016, the team at Design Is Yummy ventured out to try something new: Kampai Garden. holidayparty_2016-3

With the theme of sharing food and experiences, Kampai Garden was the perfect spot. It provided a warm and inviting atmosphere for our team to celebrate. We had a great time trying some new dishes and yummy cocktails, especially the highly anticipated Poké Bowl (or as Gabriela calls it, the Pocke-ball). We’d also like to mention that our signature cocktail was called “The Pikachu” (the Pokemon theme was unintentionally strong folks). The perfect evening to wrap up yet another big year for us. 2017, here we come!

Last week the Design is Yummy team took a trip to Veritiv’s Design and Print Excellence Awards 2016 (AKA our Paper Disneyland). We enjoyed getting inspired by the work and interacting with the new paper textures trending in the printing world from some of the most reputable paper mills in the world. In the design-trend aspect, this year we noticed a lot of metallic foil, hot stamping, holographic effects and colourful two toned pictures mixed with elegance and simplicity. The look.. Pizazz! Thank you Veritiv for hosting another successful event. Looking forward to the next event. uvu2016-2 uvu2016-3 uvu2016-4 uvu2016-5 uvu2016-6 uvu2016-8uvu2016-7   uvu2016-1uvu2016-9
