In case you missed it, Kraft created this great Mother’s Day ad featuring Melissa Mohr, the author of Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing.Sometimes moms have a potty mouth, and that is perfectly fine with us.A Kraft study revealed that 74% of moms admit to swearing in front of their kids while the other 26% are full of sh*t. Being a parent ain’t easy, and like Kraft, we embrace all those perfectly imperfect moms and mom moments.

Design Is Yummy proudly presents the two newest additions to our growing Award collection! We recently took home two bronze awards (and these fine looking trophies) from the Creativity International Awards; one for our season graphics campaign for The Segal Centre for Performing Arts (You may recognize Prom Queen or some of the others- they’ve been all around town!), and another for our design and printing of Niskamoon Corporation’s 2015-2016 Annual Report.

This would be the second consecutive year our work for Niskamoon Corporation’s annual reports have gained international recognition. Last year, the 2014-2015 Niskamoon Corporation Annual Report received a Silver Davey Award. We would like to thank the judges from the Creativity International Awards for acknowledging our hard work. It gets us pumped to create even more award-winning pieces for our awesome clients.

Chris Piascik is a graphic designer who had the idea of making a new drawing every single day for 2000 days. The amazing result “accidentally” turned him into an illustrator, and he couldn’t be happier. His illustrations are bold, fun and witty in well-executed patterns and smooth gif animations. Piascik is also big on hand-lettering. A lot of his pieces are inspired by TV shows, political commentaries, and other news related events. His style has attracted great clientele like Nickelodeon, Converse, and Absolute Vodka. Today, Piascik continues to make daily illustrations. Check out a collection of Piascik drawings below and get inspired to work out those art-muscles!

Once again, Niskamoon Corporation chose our team to design of their 2015-2016 Annual Report. The 8.5” x 10.5” report showcases another year of success for the corporation, honouring their dedication to preserve Cree traditions and featuring a local photographer’s work with breathtaking captures of Cree landscape and culture. For the printing, a raised spot UV finish of the company’s logomark feather is featured on the cover page. We also bound the pages using hidden spiral binding. This makes the book stong and still keeps a spine with a perfect bound look. Shorter pages separate every chapter of the report in bold colours with topographic lines representing their connection to their land.

The fully hidden spiral binding combines the advantages and sturdiness of wire-o-binding and the sleekness of perfect binding – a very professional and long-lasting look. Finally, these were accompanied by a matching 4” x 8” trifold brochure.

Today is a 24hr clock designed by , an award winning artist and horologist. This clock uses a 24-hour movement mechanism, allowing it to move at half the speed of a regular clock and making one full rotation every day. The result gives you peace of mind.

This feeling was inspired by the wonder of watching clouds passing by at 30,000 ft. and the need to bring it back to the ground where we spend our lives. Today is calm, balanced, and it makes you feel like you have more time; no stress. Time is precious and it should bring more gratefulness than anxiety so lets live it instead of kill it. Now if we could only find a way to slow down summer…

This paper tribute to the Catalan city of Barcelona is super inspiring (not to mention the perfect colour!). Using different shades of pink, the tiny intricate details of these architectural landmarks are artfully crafted in paper by French artists Lucie Thomas and Thibault Zimmerman in their studio of Zim & Zou for Freizenett’s (a sparkling wine) campaign. The dynamic duo at Zim & Zou team specializes in building installations using tangible materials such as paper, wood, thread, and more. Check out more of their work here.

LEGO® has been inspiring creative minds for decades, so it was only a matter of time before they would be integrated with fashion. Agabag is a brand created by a couple based in Krakow, Poland. They have been making crafty jewelry and accessories with LEGO® bricks since 2009, and the products are pure perfection. The jewelry and handbags are created with monochromatic or multicoloured LEGO® pieces without looking like they were made by a 6 year old. They even up the ante by integrating 24k gold-platted bricks, giving these accessories a high-end fashion twist. If you’re feeling a little nostalgic, these are the perfect accessories!

The month of March has really brought us so many new project opportunities. We’re happy to show off another first – LEARNING ON THE JOB a fully illustrated and designed book by your friendly group of designers. The book showcases different life careers and the inspiring lessons we can learn from them. Every job has its own personalize illustration mixing simple and intricate designs in a sketch-like style vector art. The combination of visual representations and text helps create an aesthetically pleasing book which intensifies the reader’s reaction and inspires the ideas the client is trying to get across. The final artwork features black, turquoise, and marigold tones; colours that make the pages bright, energetic rich, and fun to look at. Take a peek at some of the pages created for this wonderful project:
