Looking to recruit new doctors and medical practitioners, we designed separate targeted English and French trifold brochures for Preventia Clinics. Enclosed in a branded business envelope, the brochures inform potential candidates about their clinic’s unique approach and the services they offer.

Simple. Clean. Effective

The Cree School Board is an independent First Nation school board that offers pre-school, elementary and secondary education while developing programs in French, English and Cree. Our team had the pleasure of designing their 2016-2017 Annual Reports that incorporate colourful graphics, illustrations and photographs from programs throughout the last year. The blind embossed logo detail on the front and back cover add a subtle sophistication and modernity to the design. The end result is a visually engaging report. Design Is Yummy proudly presents the two newest additions to our growing Award collection! We recently took home two bronze awards (and these fine looking trophies) from the Creativity International Awards; one for our season graphics campaign for The Segal Centre for Performing Arts (You may recognize Prom Queen or some of the others- they’ve been all around town!), and another for our design and printing of Niskamoon Corporation’s 2015-2016 Annual Report.

This would be the second consecutive year our work for Niskamoon Corporation’s annual reports have gained international recognition. Last year, the 2014-2015 Niskamoon Corporation Annual Report received a Silver Davey Award. We would like to thank the judges from the Creativity International Awards for acknowledging our hard work. It gets us pumped to create even more award-winning pieces for our awesome clients.

We are mesmerized by this water printing technique! Hydrographic Printing is a decorating process for 3D objects that uses a water-soluble film containing a printed design. The pattern is printed onto a thin film that is laid out on a tank of water. With the use of an activator, the film dissolves in the water leaving the ink floating perfectly flat on the surface of the water. This floating ink will then stick to the 3D object, transferring the design to it. This printing technique can decorate pretty much anything! Want to try this on a small scale? Do it on your nails using the water marble technique. Click here to learn how!

Once again, Niskamoon Corporation chose our team to design of their 2015-2016 Annual Report. The 8.5” x 10.5” report showcases another year of success for the corporation, honouring their dedication to preserve Cree traditions and featuring a local photographer’s work with breathtaking captures of Cree landscape and culture. For the printing, a raised spot UV finish of the company’s logomark feather is featured on the cover page. We also bound the pages using hidden spiral binding. This makes the book stong and still keeps a spine with a perfect bound look. Shorter pages separate every chapter of the report in bold colours with topographic lines representing their connection to their land.

The fully hidden spiral binding combines the advantages and sturdiness of wire-o-binding and the sleekness of perfect binding – a very professional and long-lasting look. Finally, these were accompanied by a matching 4” x 8” trifold brochure.

We’re proud to show off our latest brand initiative – our new, custom print portfolios! From the non-standard format to the unique typography we created for each volume, we took custom to a whole new level on this one.

Each (hidden) spiral bound book contains pocket folders, giving us the freedom to change up the pieces we include to keep the books current. Our business card folder contains slits for us to insert examples of our favourite cards. We took full advantage of the opportunity to show off some of our favourite client work by turning our portfolio folders into creative works themselves. We can’t wait to show these bad boys off!

Paper galore! The days leading up to the uVu Paper Conference were counted down with pure excitement in our office. Gorgeous paper stocks, innovative design and delicious food – what better way to spend an evening? Despite the freezing rain, the Design Is Yummy team trekked out en masse last night to the Sofitel Hotel to check out the uVu Be Seen event organized by Veritiv.

Domtar, Neenah and Finch were just some of the paper mills showcasing their latest stocks at the event. From recyclable papers, to washable papers (what!?), we got to see and touch the paper of the past, present and future.

We left armed with tons of paper goodies and inspiration. Thanks Veritiv!

Holidays are all about sharing, connecting, and giving. We are super stoked to finally be able to share our holiday greeting card for 2015. The idea for the design was sparked by the notion that “By giving we become open to receiving more than we have”. For the front of the card, we made sure the viewer’s eyes would be drawn first to the inclusive message “Merry Everything”. (It is after-all a holiday card!) Surrounding the holiday message are bilingual inspirational quotes, holiday themed messages and intricate geometric line-art. The white line art pops on the dark gray background and of course there are accents of our hot pink brand colour scattered throughout the illustrations as well. At first glace the offset printed card seems flat, but the brightly coloured twine at the bottom hints that there’s more to this piece than meets the eye. The printed cards have been perforated with a custom die that makes it possible to pop out 5 of the messages to use as gift tags. The die cuts at the bottom of the cards keep the pink thread neatly stored ready to attach the tags provided to those holiday gifts. For the back, we added a variation of the pattern in a delicate gray on white so as not to distract from a personalized, hand-written message written on each card. White envelopes just wouldn’t do justice for these cards, so we free-style lettered the recipient’s names and addresses on silver mirror paper and inserted them with the cards into transparent A9 envelopes. One of our favourite features of the project is the hot pink round return address stickers placed on the front of the envelopes. These fun and interactive cards were designed to stand out in a sea of holiday mail. We hope they’ve helped our customers Share the Joy this holiday season!

The Challenge: Create a lasting impression and attract potential training clients Challenge accepted! To best reflect the energetic nature of the trainers at NBworkout, we designed this bold, dynamic business card. When it comes to creating an effective print design, it’s about more than how it looks on the screen.  Paper and finishes are equally important when it comes to crafting quality, thought-out designs. We felt the cards should be physically strong while remaining flexible so that they would not come across as stiff. To achieve this balance between tough and bending we used a wicked 32 pt matt laminated paper. The green colour edging undeniably adds to the vibrancy of the cards as well. The fluid blue to green gradient, bright watermarked logo and perfectly matching green sides help to create the striking effect. Confident and instantly eye-catching, these business cards are exactly the sleek calling card the client was after. Another happy client and some very happy designers too. Win win!
