Last night, our team hit up the Segal Centre for Performing Arts to celebrate 10 years of Segal Centre, and 30 years of theatre in one incredible place. The lobby was filled to the brim with proud supporters, theatre goers, the arts community, and famous faces! For the second consecutive year, Design Is Yummy had the privilege of collaborating with the Segal Centre for Performing Arts on their season graphics. With the 2017-2018 theatre season marking its 10 year anniversary, we excitedly took on the 6 upcoming production graphics, program book and celebratory marketing materials. Our goal was simple: make this year’s campaign special, engaging all the while topping our successful award-winning work from last year. (Sounds simple enough, right?)

Starting the lineup this year is Hockey Sweater: The Musical, based on the timeless short-story Le Chandail de Hockey by Quebec author Roch Carrier (who made an appearance at last night’s launch party!) . The show is produced in collaboration with Alive375, for the celebration of the city of Montreal’s 375th anniversary.

Returning to the Segal Centre this campaign season is Bad Jews, the highly praised original play. The exciting theatre season also includes the 2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist Marjorie Prime, the acclaimed Shaw Festival Production “Master Harold”…and The Boys, Golda’s Balcony– the longest one-woman show in Broadway history starring Emmy-award winner Tovah Feldshuh, and the beautiful story of musical legends Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich The Angel and The Sparrow. Check ’em out!

We had such a blast at last night’s season launch party. Celebrating with the theatre community, our incredible clients, friends & family, great food & drinks, and showing off the art we’ve been working so hard on over the past few months was incredible. We’re so proud! (Can you tell?)

Family and friends came out to support Design Is Yummy and the Segal Centre / Our young model poses again for The Hockey Sweater. (Caleb, you’re a true star!)

Between new clients, major projects with existing clients and multiple awards, we’ve had a busy year! In celebration of a very productive and successful 2016, the team at Design Is Yummy ventured out to try something new: Kampai Garden. holidayparty_2016-3

With the theme of sharing food and experiences, Kampai Garden was the perfect spot. It provided a warm and inviting atmosphere for our team to celebrate. We had a great time trying some new dishes and yummy cocktails, especially the highly anticipated Poké Bowl (or as Gabriela calls it, the Pocke-ball). We’d also like to mention that our signature cocktail was called “The Pikachu” (the Pokemon theme was unintentionally strong folks). The perfect evening to wrap up yet another big year for us. 2017, here we come!

Looking back on some sweet times in the past year, and looking forward to an exciting new year ahead! See you in 2017!
Year in Review from Design Is Yummy on Vimeo.

Holidays to us are all about enjoying time with loved ones, eating and taking it easy. We are very excited to share our 2017 holiday card/calendar.  This year our focus was on letting our clients know how thankful we are to be part of their trusted team and how we see it as our role to make their lives easier. For this piece we did what your mother always told you not to do- play with food. Our game: lettering. We handcrafted the poster side phrase “Rolling With Us Is Easy As Pie” from different edible materials (pie dough, sugar, jam and cookies) adding almonds, cranberries and pine to decorate the message: We added a QR code on the front of the poster to direct the receiver to a special video (above) that shows our team creating the piece behind the scenes. The results are delicious! The back of the poster is a minimalist calendar with Canadian, U.S. and Quebec holidays indicated. It also has space for the recipient to personalize their calendar with their own upcoming milestones. Our projects are custom, so we felt the calendar should be customizable as well. We printed the posters on 14 pt matt stock and shipped them flat in black paperboard envelopes. We free-styled the recipient’s names and addresses using a copper sharpie. The hot pink round return address sticker made an appearance on the front of the envelopes as well. (Gotta have that pop of pink!) We hope these posters inspire our clients to relax and enjoy this time of the year surrounded by delicious food, good vibes, and beautiful design.   diy_holidayposter_2016-4diy_holidayposter_2016-2diy_holidayposter_2016-6 Rest easy this holiday season. We’ve got your design needs covered 365 days a year!

Design Is Yummy proudly presents the two newest additions to our growing Award collection! We recently took home two bronze awards (and these fine looking trophies) from the Creativity International Awards; one for our season graphics campaign for The Segal Centre for Performing Arts (You may recognize Prom Queen or some of the others- they’ve been all around town!), and another for our design and printing of Niskamoon Corporation’s 2015-2016 Annual Report.

This would be the second consecutive year our work for Niskamoon Corporation’s annual reports have gained international recognition. Last year, the 2014-2015 Niskamoon Corporation Annual Report received a Silver Davey Award. We would like to thank the judges from the Creativity International Awards for acknowledging our hard work. It gets us pumped to create even more award-winning pieces for our awesome clients.

We’re proud to announce the launch of our latest typography project, Tealeaf – a display typeface designed and executed by yours truly. Tealeaf was inspired by the beauty of organic flowing lines found in nature. The typeface comes in two styles: Outline, and Fill. These styles can be used together or alone to create elegant prints, quotes, headers and more! This set contains only the uppercase vector, outlined alphabet contained in a ready-to-use .EPS file. Also included in the download zip are the license agreement and examples of this font in use to kick-start your inspiration. We hope you have as much fun using this typeface as we had making it! Simply like us on Facebook or tweet about Tealeaf on Twitter, and your download will start automatically. Use #tealeaf to show us your creations. We’d love to see what you can do!

Once again, Niskamoon Corporation chose our team to design of their 2015-2016 Annual Report. The 8.5” x 10.5” report showcases another year of success for the corporation, honouring their dedication to preserve Cree traditions and featuring a local photographer’s work with breathtaking captures of Cree landscape and culture. For the printing, a raised spot UV finish of the company’s logomark feather is featured on the cover page. We also bound the pages using hidden spiral binding. This makes the book stong and still keeps a spine with a perfect bound look. Shorter pages separate every chapter of the report in bold colours with topographic lines representing their connection to their land.

The fully hidden spiral binding combines the advantages and sturdiness of wire-o-binding and the sleekness of perfect binding – a very professional and long-lasting look. Finally, these were accompanied by a matching 4” x 8” trifold brochure.

We’re proud to show off our latest brand initiative – our new, custom print portfolios! From the non-standard format to the unique typography we created for each volume, we took custom to a whole new level on this one.

Each (hidden) spiral bound book contains pocket folders, giving us the freedom to change up the pieces we include to keep the books current. Our business card folder contains slits for us to insert examples of our favourite cards. We took full advantage of the opportunity to show off some of our favourite client work by turning our portfolio folders into creative works themselves. We can’t wait to show these bad boys off!

The month of March has really brought us so many new project opportunities. We’re happy to show off another first – LEARNING ON THE JOB a fully illustrated and designed book by your friendly group of designers. The book showcases different life careers and the inspiring lessons we can learn from them. Every job has its own personalize illustration mixing simple and intricate designs in a sketch-like style vector art. The combination of visual representations and text helps create an aesthetically pleasing book which intensifies the reader’s reaction and inspires the ideas the client is trying to get across. The final artwork features black, turquoise, and marigold tones; colours that make the pages bright, energetic rich, and fun to look at. Take a peek at some of the pages created for this wonderful project:
