Is there a sweeter gift for a designer and a chocolate lover? The Barcelona based design agency BLOCD created this beautiful Pantone-inspired swatch deck containing chocolate with a lovely spectrum of shades. The inspiration – the designers themselves! “”If anything defines us, it’s our expertise with a solid background in graphic design. That’s the reason why we chose a Pantone, an indispensable tool for any designer, combining it with an appreciated product by our clients and friends, in this case chocolate. Our particular Pantone had different chocolate colour ranges, which symbolize the care and attention that we pay to all our projects and the desire to share with our people the joy of tasting this delightful chocolate.” There are a lot of beautiful packaging out there, but this one takes the cake (or the chocolate bar).

As a company founded by a female entrepreneur, we were thrilled to partner up with Artistri Sud– a non-profit organization based in Montreal with a strong focus on empowering women artisans in developing countries. With the collaboration of local communities, Artistri Sud helps women access global markets to sell their handcrafted goods and create a sustainable income to better themselves and the people surrounding them. In order to raise funds, Artistri Sud organized the upcoming event “Tales of Triumph” where inspiring women share their stories of empowerment and success. For the year of 2016, Design is Yummy was honoured to donate our time to create this powerful typographic invitation and web graphics with the hopes of raising attention and awareness to such wonderful cause.

Love is in the air this month and what says romance more than candles? Nendo, a Japanese design studio, recently released an interchanging candle that melts through 5 different hues called sunset. The hues are situated in the center of the candle, and gently reflect off the white edges of the candle, creating a soft, colourful glow. Simultaneously, each hue burns a different scent, including bergamot, lemongrass, and sweet marjoram. The chosen colours are meant to reference the changing hues of a sunset, while the scents respectively compliment its colour.

If there’s one thing we love as much as design, it’s food. Food is a multi-sensory experience that has the incredible ability to bring people together. All these elements combined (taste, touch, consuming, interaction, etc.) lead us to wonder where the future of food culture will lead us, and to question our current relationship with food. Will we interact the same way with food in 20 years as we do now?In its second year, the Bitten Food Conference in New York City is dedicated to openly discuss the future of food culture – what it is, what it means, and what it can be. Different from other food conferences, Bitten reveals itself as a creative, technological, trends conference. This year, 20 panelists will share their knowledge on the topic in hopes to inspire and engage audiences to see food culture in a new light. Co-founders Naz Riahi and Emily Schildt explain, “Food affects everyone. It’s the common thread which is why we’re seeing so many other spaces, from music to art to fashion, tap into food as a means of building an engaging their communities.” The goal of the conference is to “highlight how exciting, innovative and creative the food space is […]”. Bitten makes the conversation on food open and accessible to those outside of the food industry, while encouraging those presently in the industry to share their thoughts on the topic. Yum!

As our work schedule settles back to its normal pace after the holidays, we can’t help but think back to all the fun we had creating custom holiday materials for our clients over the past few months. Using different styles, mediums, sizes and finishes, we were able to personalize our clients’ marketing materials to achieve delicious, lasting impressions for their businesses.

Here are a couple of examples of our recent holiday work:

These fun inspirational posters and printed envelopes were created for Real Estate Agent Mark-André Martel from Sutton Group. The card starts with a simple illustration, followed by a personal message from the Martel Team and helpful real-estate advice for the new year. As the card opens, a beautiful typographic poster unfolds with an message that sparkles joy and inspiration during the season. We also designed a French version. Mais oui!

Niskamoon Corporation was looking to give their clients and staff a more traditional card with their own flare. By taking advantage of a beautiful Northern landscape photograph, we created this tri-lingual corporate card that screams “Happy Holidays!”

Autonomy Capital, a New York based investment company, wanted to get away from generic online card-making to create something more personalized. We were able to translate their idea into a classy holiday card with beautiful pattern and lettering.

Sometimes paper isn’t the answer- especially if you’re promoting your company’s sustainable initiatives for 2016. Lovepac connected with their clients over the holidays and used the occasion to announce a new offering. Our team created the perfect image to honour their new environmentally friendly program.

We are proud to announce that our agency was awarded this beautiful trophy from the Davey Awards for our work on Niskamoon Corporation’s Annual Report!  [Click here to see pictures of the winning report.] The Davey Awards, aptly named after David from the David/Goliath story, is an awards competition that honours small design agencies. We’re thrilled to be among the talented winners circle of such a prestigious award. Thank you to Niskamoon Corporation for allowing us to be inspired by your organization and the great work you do. And thank you to the Davey Awards for believing in small, but mighty agencies!

Black Friday deals are everywhere today, but there’s no deal like the one you’ll get from the creators of Cards Against Humanity. The company has taken down all of their online merchandise and instead are selling absolutely nothing for an incredible sale price of $5.

”On Black Friday, everybody is selling something.” They explain on their site. “We’re the only company to offer the superior Black Friday experience of buying nothing.”

So far they have managed to sell over $50,000 worth of nothing. They haven’t yet mentioned what they will do with the money collected, but last year it was donated to Heifer International, a charity working to end hunger and poverty around the world. We’d say they’re doing a whole lot of something with all that nothing.

We’re up to no good and scaring the neighbours again.
